ABOUT ME
My Story
My name is Kim Hastings. I grew up in Killarney, Manitoba. I had a loving family, I played sports, and I was a band geek. I ended up doing a Bachelor of Music (Music Education) degree at Brandon University where I met my husband, fellow band geek, Mark Friesen. We both taught band for over thirty years, me in middle school and him at the high school level. The majority of those years were spent in Rocky Mountain House, Alberta, where we raised our two sons, Brayden and Carter.
I believe the inspiration to write this blog came from both my late father as well as my late grandmother. My grandma was an amazing woman who grew up during the depression and as such, she didn’t travel much herself. But she knew it was my greatest desire…. and Vada, who had 14 grandkids, always encouraged me. My dad was a newspaper man... professionally and also an amateur in his later years. I have always been impacted and inspired by his editorials, passion for covering local events, and letter writing skills. I think he would be proud. I hope you will join me as I reinvent myself during my retirement. For REAL this time!
